Rang De Basanti - My review

My review on Rang De Basanti -
The comments made by me in this review are purely of individual nature & if found similar to someone else's review is purely coincidental.

I went to watch Rang De Basanti with my friends yesterday, before its release, the movie was surrounded by exaggerated media hype & was also in news with its minor conflict with the censor board regarding the editing of couple of scenes where the censor board used its scissors, finally the movie released with 100% openings all over India ( helped by its date of release being 26th Jan).

As a viewer, i had mixed reactions when i judged the movie. The film was touted to be one of the best made movies of recent times & with a starcast that was far from usual, i was looking forward to see the movie.

The first half of the movie was the more hilarious part where in you could find the funny lines ( sometimes slap stick comedy) spoken by the actors but personally i found the first half a bit on the slower side & at one point i was wondering when the word intermission would display on the big screen.I thought A.R.Rehman's music is the soul of the movie though only a couple of the songs were fully played in the movie, the rest were played in the background. In terms of performance , i think every actor was at his/her best & the highlight of Rakesh Mehra's direction was that Aamir Khan was not necesaaruily given the best scenes or the best lines & i really appreciate Aamir Khan's decision to act in the movie inspite of the fact that he would be 'just one of them in the group'

The second half was extremely hard hitting & intense & believe me or not,in the last 30-40 minutes of the movie, not a single person in the threatre moved an inch, considering the fact that most of the audience was the youth,it surely takes something to make the youth sit up & watch someting with that level of intensity. The movie had a very unusual ending too,far from the stereotyped hindi movies where the last 30 mins consume barrels of glycerine & where all ends in a fairy tale ending.

For someone who has not watched the movie should definitely grab the tickets, this movie will not make some one a hard core patriotic overnight but this movie is all about self introspection & standing by one's conviction without thinking too much about the consequences...

I loved the movie too. Though I liked the first half better than the second half!!!

The message conveyed as well as the way the director drew parallels between the Indian history as well as the thoughts of the present youth is commendable.
